In recent years, the higher education community has been exploring how AI tools are impacting the ways we learn, work, and live. Focus has largely been placed on student-facing impacts such as academic integrity and personalized learning, but AI is touching every area of the institution. In this session, we will discuss EDUCAUSE’s research on the impacts AI is having across the whole institution. We summarize institutional AI strategies, policies, and guidelines; the risks, opportunities, and challenges associated with using AI in higher education; and specific examples of how faculty, staff, and students use—and want to use—AI for work.

Jenay Robert is a research manager at EDUCAUSE. She and her team focus on timely topics related to technology and higher education, such as the impacts of emerging technologies and data practices. In recent years, the EDUCAUSE research team has pursued a focused research agenda investigating the evolution of AI in higher education. Jenay holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from The Pennsylvania State University.
